Hitting the stage is nothing new to Atlanta bred rapper, Estevan. A product of the South and true to his musical roots he’s a young artist finding his way and turning heads in the process. From promoting his music on-line to promoting up and down the southern coast in states like Florida and South Carolina he has found out a way to bring attention to his campaign and separate himself from the masses. “I’m all about networking and meeting new people,” starts Estevan. “You never know who anyone is going to become or who you may be standing next to. So I talk to everybody. I hand out flyers pass out CD’s in other states to help my buzz.”
Passionate about his craft that includes a variety of different types of music, which allows him to express his full creativity, is something invigorating about him. Doing it for the passion is something that most artists have lost site of in this new world of music. But, Estevan with his dedication to the love of preserving quality music makes him an artist to like.
“Nobody does it for the passion any more,” starts Estevan. “I mean really amongst the newer artist. People see it as a quick check or fast road to fame. Now Ludacris, Wayne, TI, Eminem and people of that magnitude still do it for the passion. That’s why I’m different from other newartist. Seeing this loss of passion makes me workhard to put some more in to it. “As passionate as he is confident, when asked who he would like to collaborate with if given the chance, Estevan named industry vets like Andre 3000, Jay-Z, and Eminem, according to him itsbecause he loves to be challenged. Whether its making songs with a group of friends to see whose the best to get one of the coveted spots or planning to go against some of today’s biggest artist Estevan has it all in perspective.
“I’ve been doing this since I was 8 years old, so I have a real love for music. I’m inspired by music in general. I can honestly say I do it for the music. If I was to ever get the fame it would be great, but the money to me isn’t important. You can only spend so much of it.” Currently jacking beats and throwing togethersome of his best work for a number of up incoming mixtape projects. Estevan is planning hard for his music takeover. What kinda’ style are you rocking?:Actually my style is more along the lines of no style at all. I feel like I can do whatever, whenever, and however on any level at any time, on any beat. So, I wouldn’t say I don’t have a style, BUT I would say my style is….my own!
How long you been doin’ this rap thing?Well I been rapping about 5 years, but I didn’t get focused and serious till about a year ago. It would be about 2 years strong giving it my all and really saying, “ok this is what I’m gonna do, full time.”
How’d you gain so much ground in 2010, so fast?Well I’m a strong believer that if you do anything well long enough you will be successful, so I just kept writing & perfecting my craft until I was ready to actually hit the streets with it. So when 2010 came I said to myself…THIS IS MY YEAR! And in a game where everybody wants to be like the next big thing, they just saw someone they have always looked up to and liked. I just want to be the best me I can be! When I decided I wasn’t gonna be like, or do what everyone else was doing, & I was gonna be ME, then I think people really started saying…”Who is this dude and what is he talking about? And I perfected my craft. So when they finally saw what I was talking about, they had to go tell someone. Thus began the spread of the name Y. LUCK!
I saw Mystikal on your website(www.yluck7.com) in pictures and videos, sowhat’s your ties with him?Well after his “situation,” he came home and immediately went to work! Everyone knows when you’re trying to do anything with music in New Orleans, you have to go through Wayne. By the grace of God for whatever reason, Wild Wayne brought him to watch one of my show practices. Not only was I shocked, but I was also honored! He is the person who I watched years ago, and I said if I ever rapped that’s how I want my show to be… live, hype, and non-stop excitement. Well after the introduction, he watched a lil bit of my show in practice, then he asked me when my next show was cause he wanted to come. So once again Wild Wayne hooked it up for me to open up for him at The Industry Influence Music Conference, and he saw it first hand and immediately after the show he invited me down to his studio in Baton Rouge. After about 5 hours ofkicking it, and getting to know each other, he decided “Ok I have to do something with YOU!” And as they say… The rest is history!
What’s the name of your new album?“Beginnerz Luck,” I named it that because people are anticipating it, expecting it to be a big album. And if it does what we think, then of course the haters are gonna say it was just beginner’s luck. So I decided to say it first, just to let people know I’m way ahead of you.
Any upcoming collabos?Well I’m working with Mystikal of course on a bunch of things, my sister as well, and also my producer/ singer Roi “Chip” Anthony. Other than that… just my people, cause I feel like we have enough talent right here in my city(New Orleans)!
